“Good reading for the Soul.”David D. Stob
“Elisa is a talented artist and writer who gets her sense of humor from her father — veteran comedy writer, Hal Goodman. As he would attest if he were still here, she’s been funny since she came out of the womb. Her drawings get better and better over time and I’m constantly amazed where her creativity takes her.”Natalie C. Goodman
“Your book? My new fave. In all seriousness — it made me laugh, cry and reflect. Everything. It’s heartfelt, genuine, soul-filled. It’s as colorful as our lives should be.”Lynne Popadak
“I can randomly open to any page and feel inspired and enlightened by your story. Your humor, honesty and insight uplifts me.”Bonnie Max
“Artist Elisa Goodman has created a delightful collection of writings and illustrations in “Life’s Too Short to Spend with Assholes!” Using her own experiences ranging from those of wonder and joy (“Swoozie”) to profound sadness (the loss of her husband, Ken), Elisa provides us with not just a “Skewed Look into the ART of Daily Living” but also with inspirational prose tied to her charming artwork. Elisa is always uplifting with a wonderfully wry sense of humor.”David Cappoli & Cindy Spadoni

A Note from the Author:
Over the last 9 years I’ve discovered my Gift is to LOOK at grief, fear, stress and loss around mid-life challenges with a New perspective — so that the 2nd half of our lives are filled with purpose, humor, creativity and joy. Humor, along with spiritual reflection, goes a long way towards any kind of healing — so think of me as your galaxy guide…

The Story Behind
Once Upon a Time there was a Wife who had a very sad thing happen to someone she loved. Her husband Ken, who loved BOOKS more than anything, found himself without the ability to SEE. He had a kidney transplant when he was 28, and was on anti-rejection medication for 28 years, which affected his immune system and, ultimately, his EYESIGHT. Sadly, he passed away in 2010, when he was just 58.

In 2008, because Ken was being treated at The Jules Stein Eye Institute at UCLA, I found myself obsessed with drawing EYES — and using different words like SEEING, LOOKING, SHIFTING, ENVISIONING, LENS, PERSPECTIVE and INSIGHT to illuminate how we were feeling — while trying to find something positive (and funny) we could hold on to.
The Cover Art of this Book is a caricature I made of my husband Ken and our parrot, Hightop. The “Life’s Too Short to Spend with Assholes” quote is courtesy of my late husband, Ken! DISCLAIMER: I don’t want you for a single minute to think this book is downer! Au contraire! You will find much of it pretty hilarious and definitely uplifting!
The (2) books together include over 100 whimsical, happy illustrations, “Laugh Out Loud’ Wisdom — peppered with transformational tales of learning to take the high road, using creativity to manage grief, looking for clues from the Universe to help navigate through tough decisions, being able to shift and pivot out of procrastination, worry and stress over situations that, ultimately, are not my problem — and being able to breathe easier through the practice of Iyengar Yoga — which straightened out my nerves and changed my life.
An odd-storied Stew and Potpourri of the blind leading the blind, “Seinfeld-esque” moments, “Chicken Soup meets Oprah’s Super Soul,” while doing my best to imagine channeling the “skewed” wit of one of the funniest people I never got to meet — the late Carrie Fisher. Another wonderful life that ended way too soon. TIME has become a game-changer and being consciously aware that TIME should be spent on things that FILL you up, make you HAPPY, bring JOY keep you INSPIRED and instill within you with a sense of wonder and purpose.
All of my Character’s have Funny Eyes, Cyclops Eyes, No Eyes or Closed Eyes. These lovable characters are referred to as my “DOWNLOADS from the DIVINE!” You know – sometimes, you really can’t make this shit up!
Fast Forward (9) years and 200 illustrations later, I have been sharing my story and subsequent “life” wisdom with those who find me at Art Shows and Farmer’s Market’s around the country. Some of the characters are based on real people and some are just plucked right out of my imagination. People ask me where I get my character’s names…I think of interesting names, put them in a word document and after I draw a character – I run through my name file and see if any of the names fits. And that’s how a ‘character’ is named. It is already infused with a Spirit Energy — it just needs a quirky name to go with it.
Many of the Designs are available as greeting cards, magnets, calendars and posters through my website, www.curmudgeoncards.com. I am envisioning creating and writing an animated TV show with my characters (ala “The Family Guy”) because they are packed with personality and I love doing crazy voices!
People who happen upon my work are initially drawn to this book title which makes them laugh out loud! Upon taking a closer look, they find the messages resonate for them at just the right time. My work has continued to deepen with juicy detail and customers often comment on my strong, consistent, memorable & whimsical style and the book format allows you to flip it open so on any given day, you choose an empowering story to shape your day.
